Magnesium is one of the most abundantly used elements in the body. But due to mineral depletion of our soils, digestive issues that may disrupt absorption, and even certain medications, many of us are deficient in Magnesium. I often recommend taking a magnesium supplement at night; the benefits are two-fold; magnesium can aid in sleep as well as move the digestive process along, if you are, shall we say, experiencing less movements.
Using Magnesium salts or Epsom salts in a bath is another great way to absorb magnesium and reap the benefits, especially if you think your digestive system is recovering from years of challenges. The skin has a great ability to release toxins, as well as absorb nutrients for delivery to your cells. Magnesium baths are great for:
- stress relief
- sore muscles/joints
- during detoxification efforts
- improving skin tone/softness
- aid in sleep
- increasing the mineral's absorption
- illness recovery
- workout recovery
For your bath, add 1-2 cups of magnesium salts to hot water in your tub. Swirl around a bit to mix. You can also add another 1/2 cup of baking soda or sea salt, for added detox effects. Try adding 10 drops of essential oil like lavender (calming) or mint (invigorating). Soak for at least 20 minutes when possible, to enhance the effects.
Take deep breaths. Listen to calm music. When was the last time you treated yourself to a real slow-down moment?
I can't recommend a magnesium bath enough for anyone doing tough workouts regularly, (rock on my Barry's Bootcampers!) and those cleaning up diet to help the body's detox process (yeah, Sugar Detox crew!)
Have a relaxing night!
